Miss QuizUp? The duels are back, now with a real rating
QuizUp shut down in 2021. Elo.World picks up where it left off: 1v1 trivia duels against real players, hundreds of topics, and a chess-style Elo that shows where you really rank.
QuizUp is gone. The itch to beat someone is not.
For a few years, QuizUp was the trivia app. You picked a topic, got matched with a stranger somewhere in the world, and fought it out over a handful of timed questions. Tens of millions of people played. Then it faded, and in 2021 it was switched off for good.
- November 2013: Plain Vanilla Games, a studio in Iceland, launches QuizUp on iPhone. Android follows in 2014.
- 2016: Glu Mobile buys QuizUp. The game keeps running, with few big updates.
- 20 January 2021: QuizUp is removed from the App Store and in-app purchases stop.
- 22 March 2021: QuizUp is discontinued. The servers go offline, and every account, level and title with them.
Since then, players have been looking for a game that feels the same: quick, head-to-head, and about what you know rather than how much you pay. That is the game we built.
The QuizUp duel, rebuilt around a rating
The heart of QuizUp was the 1v1: you, one opponent, the same questions, a ticking clock. Elo.World keeps that. Challenge a friend, a colleague or anyone in the world to a ranked duel of about 90 seconds. Every opponent is a real player.
What changes is what the win is worth. In QuizUp, you earned XP and levels that only went up, so the top of a topic often meant the most hours played. On Elo.World, every answer moves a chess-style Elo rating up or down against the players who faced the same question. Beat a hard one and you climb fast. Miss an easy one and you drop.

Rankings that mean something again
Remember checking where you stood in your favourite QuizUp topic? Elo.World puts your rating on four boards at once, and a weekly league groups you with players near your level. When the week ends, it resets and you fight again.

What happened to QuizUp?
QuizUp launched in November 2013 from Plain Vanilla Games in Iceland. Glu Mobile bought it in 2016. On 20 January 2021 it was pulled from the App Store, and on 22 March 2021 the game was discontinued and its servers went offline. The original app no longer works.

Can I get my QuizUp account, levels or titles back?
No. QuizUp's servers went offline in March 2021, so old accounts, levels and titles cannot be moved anywhere. On Elo.World you start fresh at 1,200 Elo, and your rating unlocks after 20 quizzes, so you find out where you stand quickly.
How is Elo.World different from QuizUp?
QuizUp rewarded playing a lot: levels and XP only went up. Elo.World rewards knowing a lot: your Elo goes up and down with every answer, measured against the players who faced the same question. Yes. Elo.World is free on iPhone, Android and in your browser. There is no paywall on your Elo and no ads in the middle of a question.
